Kid Robot Collectables

Author: Adelle Walsh | June 5th, 2009

If you thought that Kid Robot was just an apparel line then you’d be much mistaken! The clothing line was only launched in 2006 after the creation of a successful line of animated toys and collectables.

Paul Budnitz created the premier toy line in 2002, which focuses on collaborations with top names in the creative industries including graffiti, fine art, fashion, industrial design, graphic design, illustration and music. Each lend their hand to creating a limited edition range which have become popular for collecting and trading. Today, KidRobot toys have become collectable items and gained a cult following with pop up shops and swapping events held across the globe for toy enthusiasts. Featured artists design anything from a few hundred to a few thousand of each toy meaning they are limited in distribution and can that they can fetch anything from $6- $20 000!

The modern designs (which feature on the clothing ranges, including t-shirts, polos and sweatshirts) merge urban street trends, fashion and pop art. The prestigious Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York featured a collection of the toys in 2007 as part of the ‘Just In: Recent Acquisitions from the Collection’ proving that modern art can be shown in many different designs and formats.
